First Blog Post - MUS F200X - Larsen

Hello all,

My name is Soren. I'm a sophomore at UAA studying Aviation Technology with a minor in CS. I've lived in Alaska for the past 8 years and flew for the first time up here. I particularly like World War 2 era planes. I'm taking this class as an elective because I enjoy playing and learning about music. The photo is of northern lights that I saw during a weekend at Chena.

I've been playing music since I was roughly 6 years old. I have played in concerts as well as a band, but currently I mostly only play for my church band. I originally learned the piano, but later taught myself the guitar. After a few years of self teaching, I went to a teacher and learned a lot about guitar and music theory, and I've been interested ever since. I haven't attended a concert in quite some time. The song is from my favorite band, Switchfoot.

  1. Music theory is so darn useful. Glad you learned about it. Did you hear in that song it started out in E minor and then they switched into a major key using a device called a piccardy third. This is really great band and as I mentioned before, I had never heard of them. Why aren't they better known?
